Keeping with a familiar pattern following a murder in the city of Mobile, Alabama, Mobile police are releasing no additional details, and other local news outlets have not updated as of Sunday, January 16, 2012. Mr. Saxon was shot in the chest at approximately 4:00 AM , Thursday, January 12, 2012, the fifth homicide this new year. The twenty-five year old University of South Alabama biology major, who lived directly across the street from the campus on University Blvd ( at William and Mary intersection), was found dead under the carport of a next door neighbor. Mobile Tribune was on the scene briefly that morning and a family member indicated the crime was a home invasion. It is not known who found the victim. There has been no additional information released by Mobile police so residents have no way of knowing whether they should be fearful of a killer on the loose in the area. Police have not said whether the murder was the result of a home invasion and whether the shooting took place inside the home and Mr. Saxon made it outside, or if the shooting took place outside. Neighbors did not report any unusual activity. Police have not indicated whether there is a suspect in the crime. Mobile police have stated in the past they do not often release details of a crime due to investigation being in progress and release of details could hamper apprehending a suspect. However, it is not clear how basic information such as whether the crime was the result of a home invasion, whether anything of value was stolen, whether a suspicious vehicle was seen in the area, whether the shooting took place inside or outside the home and how the victim ended up on the carport of a neighbor, could do harm to an on-going investigation. In fact, release of some of this information might help solve the crime.
