0188-How Rick Santorum Could Become the Next U.S. President

You might wonder how a money-strapped dark-horse like former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum could become the next leader of America, and I can tell you how. The answer is basically one word: politics. But okay, I will elaborate. Remember Herman Cain? Everyone just knew he was going to be the man pitted against Obama this November, but personal items got in the way and he, like others, faded into the political sunset. In case you are wondering, a political sunset isn't like the ones you see from the beach in Mazatlan or Acapulco.

Imagine a scenario in which both Gingrich and Romney fell by the wayside and lost their bids as presidential hopefuls. It can happen as fast as it takes a hummingbird to get from flower A to flower B. In this age of viral web technology and political savvy-ness - or savageness if you prefer, a tiny piece of negative news can turn a politician as upside down as that pretty little house most of us are living in.

Also take into consideration it wouldn't take but a puff of bad air to knock Gingrich out of contention, and some people don't even think he is a contender now, sans a major scandal.

Romney is a different story, but he still has the negatives of looks and personality. He's been called too stiff, unnatural with a grooming that is too groomed. Someone coined the phrase "that guy on top of the wedding cake" and I agree. His handlers need to locate a huge industrial fan, turn it on high and point it at Mr. Romney. Of course his looks and stiffness do not a knock-out make so it would take something more.

The point is there is always that possibility for a slip-up or a news story that could topple Romney onto the icing of his proverbial cake. That would leave Rick Santorum, and money would no longer be a problem for him as it would immediately begin to flow into his piggy bank. Right now Rick is laying low, doing his taxes so he can present them to the starving press and public. He promises to stay in the race. It might just be the best damn decision Rick Santorum ever made in his life. (Photo: CSMonitor.com)
