A free Jimmy Buffett concert scheduled for July 1, 2010, has been rescheduled for Sunday, July 11, 2010. The reason given is weather. Tropical storm Alex is expected to reach hurricane status sometime today and make landfall this week about the same time the Gulf Shores concert was originally scheduled. The hurricane is not expected to have any major impact on Gulf Shores, and instead is headed towards Mexico and possibly a portion of Texas on their border. Although the Buffett concert is free ,some out of town fans made plans that include accommodations, and are upset about the rescheduled event. Many hotels on Gulf Shores say they will work with customers on new accommodations, but it's clear rescheduling a vacation is not an easy option for most people. There was a concern that rough seas could cause beach and sand erosion on and near the concert site, so apparently for safety reasons the event was rescheduled.
